Hounslow, 22 May 2004: The Church of Scientology's travelling Volunteer Minister Exhibition was opened today by Alfred Agius, director of Westminster Interfaith and Hounslow resident. The Exhibition was located in the town centre and brought simple solutions to every day problems, such as with drugs, crime, conflict and illiteracy.
The Volunteer Minister Exhibition, which is travelling around London throughout the year (with similar exhibitions in major cities around Europe), includes demonstrations of simple practical methods, developed by humanitarian L Ron Hubbard, to help deal with the daily problems in life. It also shows the work carried out by the Volunteer Ministers in disaster areas, such as in the immediate aftermath of the September 11th disaster. The Scientology Volunteer Ministers became the “fourth emergency service” at the scene of Ground Zero, working alongside the Fire Brigade, Red Cross and the Police.
In opening the exhibition, Alfred Agius – a well known and popular figure in the inter faith arena – said, “The Scientology Volunteer Ministers provide help and skills in many areas of life’s common difficulties, and I welcome this Volunteer Minister Exhibition to Hounslow.”
Many local residents passed through the exhibition, some receiving help directly and others taking away reading materials that they could use to help themselves and help others.
The Exhibition also had displays of the activities of the Volunteer Ministers around the world including photographs from Ground Zero, New York, and photographic displays of their work at other disaster areas such as the earthquakes in Japan, India and Mexico. It also included details of the activities and practical methods devised by Scientology's founder L Ron Hubbard, used to help people deal with every day difficulties, and with the trauma caused by accidents and illnesses.
Scientology spokesperson, Stefania Cisco, said, “We have many Volunteer Ministers in London who have already been trained and are actively helping others to improve their quality of life. We were very pleased to bring this exhibition to Hounslow so that we can train up many more Volunteer Ministers. People of any other religion or of none are always welcome at the exhibition, to ask for information about the programme or to undertake some training. We will be returning to Hownslow on other weekends during this year.”
The Scientology Volunteer Minister Programme was developed in 1976 by L. Ron Hubbard to enable individuals from all walks of life to provide practical assistance to others. The Church of Scientology plans to train thousands of Volunteer Ministers internationally by year end and wants to train hundreds more in London.
